Financial shares were higher, in line with the broader market, as investors await speeches from several Federal Reserve officials–Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell will give a speech at 9:10 a.m. ET.; San Francisco Fed President John Williams at 8:15 a.m. ET; Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker at 9:30 a.m. ET; and Kansas City Fed President Esther George at 4:30 p.m. ET.
In sector news, Mastercard (MA) and PayPal (PYPL) said that they have expanded their payment option partnership into Canada, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East and Africa. Under the agreement, Mastercard will become a payment option within the PayPal Wallet. PayPal can also use “tokenization” services from Mastercard, allowing consumers to use their “tokenized” Mastercard in their PayPal Wallet to make in-store purchases. Shares of both MA and PYPL were up marginally in the pre-market session.
